Best robot arm under $200

Our pick is the SO-101. One follower arm is $121.94 in parts per The Robot Studio BOM, and it is the default arm in Hugging Face's LeRobot. If you want smoother Dynamixel servos, the Koch v1.1 follower is about $199 per its README.

Under $200 for an AI-ready arm usually means open-source frames on bus servos. SO-101 and Koch prices below are from each project's README BOM (SO-101 re-checked Nov 3, 2026). Assembled-kit retail prices were checked on seller sites Oct 30, 2026. Next step: build the SO-101 follower, or open the parts list before you order.

Our pick: SO-101

At $121.94 for one follower arm, the SO-101 is the cheapest arm with first-class AI tooling: Hugging Face's LeRobot treats it as the reference robot, so recording demos and training policies follow the main docs. You print the frame; the BOM is mostly six Feetech STS3215 servos plus a motor board and power supply.

Does it work: yes with LeRobot teleop and training. The Robot Studio README says the arms are designed to work with LeRobot. See the SO-101 build card or try simulation models first.

Runner-up: Koch v1.1

The Koch v1.1 follower is $199 on Dynamixel servos, which are smoother and better documented than hobby bus servos. It's the better pick if you value precision over price, and no soldering is needed.

No 3D printer? Assembled arms around $200

The SO-101 and Koch prices above are for parts, and you print the frame yourself. If you don't have a printer, these sellers ship the frame with the arm. We checked every price on the seller's own page on Oct 30, 2026. Prices are in US dollars before shipping.

For AI training with LeRobot, WowRobo's $199 package is the closest you'll get to $200. It's the printed parts and all 12 servos for an SO-101 pair, and you put it together yourself. Fully assembled SO-101 pairs start at $299. The xArm 1S has a metal frame and comes with its own app and PC software, but the LeRobot tutorials are written for the SO-101. The LittleArm 2C is a $99 Arduino kit that snaps together in under an hour, which makes it a good first arm for kids or for learning to code moves. PartaBot also sells SO-101 kits ($249 unassembled follower, $299 assembled follower), but every option was sold out when we checked.

No training data? Let an AI agent drive it

You don't need a leader arm to start. Builders on X are giving a coding agent a small Python API for the SO-101 and letting it draw, paint and check its own work through a webcam.

Over budget but worth knowing

Thor (a 6-axis stepper arm, under €350) is stiffer and more precise. Put an SO-101 on wheels with LeKiwi, or build the dual-arm XLeRobot from about $660.

Common questions

What is the cheapest robot arm that works with AI?

The SO-101 follower arm, about $122 in parts per its official BOM, works with Hugging Face LeRobot for imitation learning and VLA models.

Do I need two arms?

Only for leader/follower teleoperation data collection. One arm is enough for scripted control or letting an AI agent drive it.

Do I need a 3D printer?

No. Several vendors sell printed parts or fully assembled SO-101 kits.

What's the best robot arm under $200 if I don't have a 3D printer?

For AI projects, WowRobo's $199 SO-101 package. It comes with the printed parts and all 12 servos for a leader + follower pair, so you only have to assemble it. If you want it fully built, WowRobo's assembled SO-101 pair is $299 and Seeed Studio's is $315.99. For a simpler first arm, the Hiwonder xArm 1S is $199.99 as a kit or $239.99 assembled, and the LittleArm 2C Arduino kit is $99. Prices were checked on each seller's site on Oct 30, 2026, before shipping.
