Free your robot vacuum from the cloud with Valetudo

Vacuum, Medium

Valetudo replaces the vendor cloud on supported Roborock and Dreame vacuums, giving you a local web UI, maps, and MQTT/Home Assistant control with no account.

Valetudo is not custom firmware; it runs alongside vendor firmware as a local 'brain parasite', so you keep the vendor's navigation but lose the cloud, ads and subscriptions. You get room cleaning, no-go zones, and MQTT autodiscovery for Home Assistant.

Hardware & cost: A supported vacuum (check the Valetudo supported-robots list; many need rooting via the DustBuilder process). Software is free.

Difficulty: Medium. Rooting can void warranty; follow the docs for your exact model.

Agent install prompt (paste into Claude Code, Cursor or Codex): "Read https://valetudo.cloud docs and https://github.com/Hypfer/Valetudo, tell me if my vacuum model is supported and the rooting steps, then help me set up MQTT into Home Assistant once it's installed."

Ideas to try with it

Our ideas, not the builder's claims.

  1. Start a living room clean from Home Assistant when everyone leaves
  2. Pause the vacuum automatically when a video call starts
  3. Send the robot to a spot under the table from the local map
1 more idea
  1. Log every run's cleaned area to a dashboard
