Dream Logger: tell an M5Stack your dream and get four illustrated scenes
Gadget, Medium
A bedside M5Stack CoreS3 SE records your dream, turns it into four illustrated scenes, and saves them to a calendar website so you can look back at past nights.
Fede built this for dreams that are gone five minutes after waking. You talk to the M5Stack CoreS3 SE while the dream is still fresh. It transcribes the recording with OpenAI speech-to-text, then makes four images in order: opening, development, turning point and ending. If a picture feels wrong, you record a voice note and it redraws that one.
You browse the scenes on the 320x240 touchscreen and save the dream to a companion site with a calendar, which makes it easier to spot recurring themes. The device talks to the APIs over its own Wi-Fi, so it needs no computer once flashed, and a power bank keeps it running by the bed.
The firmware is C++ on the Arduino ESP32 framework with M5Unified and M5GFX, written with Codex in a flash-and-test loop over USB-C. The post doesn't link any code.
Ideas to try with it
Our ideas, not the builder's claims.
- Use the same flow for a kid's bedtime story box
- Tag each dream by mood and chart it over a month
- Print the four scenes as a weekly zine
