Hermes Agent on Android: real setups

People run Hermes on Android through Termux, with or without a proot Ubuntu, or inside a Linux VM app. The models almost always run at a cloud provider. Most of the breakage is in installs and updates that try to build Python packages on the phone, and Android killing background processes.

Oct 25, 2026: Nous has teased an official Hermes mobile app, but Teknium says it's still in private beta. Nous also says App Store apps using the Hermes name aren't theirs and are generally scams. Can you run Hermes Agent on an Android phone?
Yes. People run it in Termux, with or without a proot Ubuntu, or inside a Linux VM app, and the model almost always runs at a cloud provider. One Motorola Edge 60 Pro owner has run it for months as an always-on assistant with Telegram, WhatsApp and scheduled jobs, using Termux and proot Ubuntu with no root.
Is there an official Hermes Agent app for Android?
Not yet. On Oct 25, 2026 Teknium said the official Hermes mobile app is still in private beta. Nous says App Store apps using the Hermes name aren't theirs and are generally scams.
What usually breaks with Hermes on Android?
Installs and updates that try to build Python packages on the phone, like psutil and Rust crates, and Android killing background processes. One user keeps Termux alive with the screen off by tapping Acquire WakeLock and setting Termux's battery use to Unrestricted.

    Usable day to day. The desktop app's interface runs in the phone's Chrome and is pinned to the home screen as a web app, with a watchdog that restarts things after reboots and background kills. Browser automation works with Termux Chromium over CDP (about 2 s a page).
    Broke
    hermes plugins enable/disable compiles Rust crates on the phone (over 7 minutes, about 1.6 GB of cache). Skills marked platforms: [linux] are refused on Termux. Local speech-to-text with faster-whisper can't run on Android. Other apps on the phone can reach 127.0.0.1, so local APIs need a token.

    Has run for months as an always-on assistant with a Telegram bot, the WhatsApp bridge, scheduled jobs and several bot profiles, all on the phone.

    Says the hard part is Android's process lifecycle, not Hermes. A commenter caught a wrong path in the install step, which the author fixed.

    Says it works very well. Runs a team of agents from the phone and has Codex and Antigravity installed so the agents can write code on it.
    Broke
    The script installs Firefox to get around browser problems. On iPhone (iSH) the author says it only runs with very limited capabilities.

    Worked with a psutil wheel prebuilt for Termux and lazy installs turned off (HERMES_DISABLE_LAZY_INSTALLS=1).

    On a fresh install the venv kept trying to build native packages like psutil on the phone, failing and retrying at every start. The phone hard-rebooted several times while building.

    Got around both problems below: a small psutil shim built on /proc, and export ANDROID_API_LEVEL=29 before building Rust packages.

    An APK that boots an Alpine Linux VM in QEMU with Hermes already installed. No root, no Termux.
    Worked
    The app has chat, a shell inside the VM, and VM start/stop and memory settings. Packages you install stay after restarts.
    Broke
    No 32-bit phones or x86 emulators. The APK is about 1.8 GB with the speech pack, or about 220 MB without it.
